Effectiveness
When it comes to winning battles in Pokémon, knowing your type matchups is the key. Every Pokémon belongs to one or two types, and each move also has its own type. The Pokémon Type Calculator helps trainers quickly figure out whether their move will be super effective, not very effective, or have no effect at all against an opponent.

This tool is especially helpful in competitive play, where the smallest advantage can change the outcome of the match. By using a type calculator, you can plan your battle strategy more effectively and always be one step ahead of your rival.
Formula for Pokémon Damage Multiplier
The effectiveness of a move is determined by multipliers based on the defender’s type(s).
Formula:
Total Multiplier=Type 1 Effectiveness×Type 2 Effectiveness\text{Total Multiplier} = \text{Type 1 Effectiveness} \times \text{Type 2 Effectiveness}Total Multiplier=Type 1 Effectiveness×Type 2 Effectiveness
- If the Pokémon has one type, only that type’s multiplier is considered.
- If the Pokémon has two types, the multipliers are multiplied together.
Example:
- Charizard (Fire/Flying) vs. Water-type move
Fire weak to Water → 2×
Flying neutral to Water → 1×
- Total = 2× damage
- Total = 2× damage
